Rent A Motorbike
Winter or summer, rain or shine, (and let’s face it it’s going to be shine for the most part) the best way of seeing Malta is without the hassle of parking and traffic jams. This is easily achieved if you opt for two wheels instead of four to make your way around the islands.
A hired motor bike can get you anywhere within a period of no more than thirty minutes - the beach, the countryside, the popular bays, the hotels and restaurants, the capital city of Valletta, the trendy towns of Sliema and St Julian's, the heaving nightspot of Paceville, the national stadium, beach club, the gym, the historical places, the theatre, the cinema, the sleepy sister island of Gozo and the established venues of Maltese motorbike sporting activities.
Hiring agencies provide you with the latest bike models as well as the paraphernalia that goes with them, including roadmaps and short-term insurance policies.
The rates are cheap and while the road surfaces are not so good they are and have been steadily improving for a while. That said, provided you don't ride like a lunatic and dodge the biggest potholes, the conditions are good enough and safe enough for someone who would want to get in touch with the adventurous spirit within them to have a go.
It would help if you are a fairly experienced biker and to plan your daily motorbike outings. Malta may be small, but getting to grips with the roads, the inner-town and village streets and Maltese drivers' many quirks and gesticulations could initially turn out to be somewhat complicated.
Once you've mastered the local idiosyncrasies, however, it's fun time for you any other ‘easy rider’ who joins you in exploring the Maltese Islands.
