pauleen.micallef@gmail.com www.pauleensart.comPauleen Micallef (1951- ) who lives in Qawra, is an established British born Maltese artist, who has been in the Malta art scene for over thirty years. Besides developing and improving her artiistic career through the years, she has also attended various workshops with international artists, hailing from United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, South Africa and Poland. She paints portraits and figures from live, and also paints Malta scenes depicting historical, picturesque land and seascapes in ‘plein air’. The mediums she uses when painting on paper or canvas are watercolour, acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal n’ chalk, inks and pastels. Her artistic style varies from realism to impressionism /contemporary: the preferred style depends mainly on choice of themes. When it is not possible doing outside painting, due to hot weather, she also works in her studio. Presently she is painting wild life creatures and their habitats. These works are painted in oils on a gesso acrylic based canvas, to render better results to the completed painting. These works in process are being posted on social media, which already have a good following. Pauleen has works in private collections, locally and abroad. She is a regular contributor to philanthropic events. She also takes portrait commissions, though it is advisable to book in advance. Please phone 0356 99403764 when making an appointment for a private viewing of art works. ‘When a painting is hung on the wall, part of the artist remains there too.’ Pauleen Micallef
I'm an Art Teacher at St.Nicholas College, Middle School, Rabat.I like to consider myself as an Artist-Teacher, as I don't feel that any one of these two careers hinder each other. On the other hand, I feel that one inspires and motivates the other to improve and work harder.
Mark Schembri was born on April 25th 1977. He attended a four-year course at the Salvatore Dimech School for Arts and Crafts, Targa Gap, Mosta from 1993 to 1997 where he obtained a Distinction in Graphic Design. In 1995 he was awarded first prize in a Youth Service Organisation Art competition sponsored by Bank of Valletta. In February 1997 he attended an Art course at Kerteminde, Denmark. Since 1997 he has worked as a freelance Artist and Graphic Designer. Since then Mark has participated in numerous collective exhibitions and has held more than fifteen solo exhibitions. He has also been commissioned to do many works, some of which are displayed in public places. Two of these commissioned works can be viewed at the Mosta Parish Church and the Mgarr Parish Church. Mark is also a well established caricature artist and in 2014 he was entrusted by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts to design a set of Carnival floats depicting local politicians. Political satire had not been included in the local Carnival for over eighty years. He is also an established book illustrator. The artist’s style has evolved throughout his career. His resulting work depends on various factors such as life changes, various moods and an inquisitive, natural curiosity that compels him to delve into issues and discover new dimensions. Novel techniques and unfamiliar media stimulate his inspiration. However, Mark is mostly interested in Art as communication. His paintings are therefore for him not merely decorative items but documents that challenge and raise questions. Modern and age-old dilemmas related to the human condition are very much at the artist’s heart.
