Spring is the season of birth and renewal! Its longer, sunnier days coupled with blooming flowers and pollinating bees add a touch of much-needed colour and vibrance to the air.
This awakening within nature also seems to ignite a similar vitality and optimism in people! Perhaps it's your annual Spring clean or maybe you’re looking for a touch of redecoration to bring a new lease of life to your space, Spring is a time for change.
And yet, navigating the interior design space can often feel daunting. Where does one even start? Luckily, Findit recently caught up with Sandy from Sandy Bonnici Interiors and she’s got the perfect tips and advice on what you should and shouldn’t be looking for.
1. DO - Incorporate Natural Elements✅
If you’re looking to enhance the overall ambiance of your home then this is a great place to start. Wooden touches, stone accents and rattan or jute pieces will add warmth and texture to any space.
1. DON’T - Clutter❌
A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. Reduce unnecessary clutter to allow your decor elements to breathe. Spring calls for less overcrowding, so bring things out and put them away as you see fit. Consider rearranging furniture to create a more open and airy layout.
2. DO - Embrace Light Fabrics✅
Great for creating an airy and inviting atmosphere in your home. This can be anything from linen tablecloths for added texture to scatter cushions with bright floral patterns that really bring in that Spring feeling!
2. DON’T - Dark Colours❌
This can overpower your space and create a sense of heaviness. As such, it can also make rooms feel smaller and overwhelm the senses.
3. DO - Bring Life Indoors✅
Never underestimate the power of a well-placed plant pot, whether big and standalone or small and propped up onto your furniture, vibrant flowers and foliage not only add colour but over time help purify the air making your space feel rejuvenated.
Disclaimer for Pet Owners and Young Children ; Some plants can be toxic if ingested by pets and children, such as Lillies. Always research the specific plants you are considering and ensure they are safe for your family members. They may also be easily knocked over, making plant placement crucial for safety.
3. DON’T - Keep Your Winter Theme for Too Long❌
Adapt your home to the changing of the seasons and let the outside reflect the inside in a seasonal sense. Swap out heavy items such as heavy quilts and fur throws and create a balance between the warmth of winter and the coolness of spring.
4. DO - Take Advantage of Any Outdoor Space✅
If you have any form of outdoor space, whether it’s a garden, terrace or even a small balcony, there’s always room for some flowers and greenery! If you’re lucky enough to have a space big enough for a seating arrangement, then make the most of it too. Choose weather resistant materials that can withstand the elements and opt for cushions and pillows in durable outdoor fabrics.
4. DON’T - Neglect the Lighting and the Importance of Shade❌
Insufficient lighting can make your space feel dark and unwelcoming. Extend the usability of outdoor space into the evening by adding good lighting. Outdoor lamps or lanterns can create a warm and inviting ambiance. Provide shade options to make your outdoor space comfortable on sunny days. Consider adding awnings, umbrellas or even planting trees to create natural shade.
5. DO - Consider Sustainabilty✅
Include natural sustainable fibers such as Sisal and light Woolen rugs which are extremely durable and stain resistant. This is a delightful way to infuse warmth and texture into your space, further complementing the spring theme. Sandy Bonnici Interiors provides an array of custom made rugs tailored to suit any home, decor and style.
5. DONT - Heavy Drapery❌
Heavy drapery might work during the winter months but during Spring time, it’s preventing more natural light from flooding your space and can be seen as visually oppressive.
