A ride-on toy made to look like a vintage racing car catches my eye. Its shiny finish gleams off the soft lighting and its large steering wheel invites children’s imaginations to go wild. Lara laughs as she catches my gaze. 'Nearly all the dads that come through here ask me about that piece!

With two young kids of her own, Lara’s warm nature reflects the ambiance within the store. She understands that it’s the little things that make a big difference, going that extra mile. They also offer wrapping and greeting cards, and if you're feeling extra sentimental, their staff will happily handwrite your message and wrap your gift with love on your behalf. Findit sat down with Lara to learn more about her and the story behind Swanky Boutique and what lies ahead!

1. What’s something most people don’t know about Swanky Boutique?

Well, there’s a few points actually. Something I’m really proud of is that we represent over 100 world-renowned children’s brands, and 90% of our products are priced the same as on the official brand websites overseas.
 

We also have a great points system for loyal customers! For every euro spent (excluding VAT), customers earn points that can be redeemed for discounts of 5%, 10%, or even 15%.
 

Perhaps the last thing worth mentioning that many people may not know is that we actually used to be called Swanky Hampers. We started out by creating luxury organic food hampers tailored to businesses, complete with customized branding and elegant gift boxes. It was great, there was nothing like it in the market here at the time!

2. Can you tell us more about how the transition from Swanky Hampers to Swanky Boutique came about?

Absolutely! So we initially focused on organic food hampers, but then we expanded to include children's gift boxes and that took off massively! We kept receiving requests from clients wanting to purchase individual items from the children's boxes for their kids. And from there, the rest is history!
 

3. What challenges have you faced in promoting sustainable products?

That was actually the easy part! Our clients love that our products are sustainable! The main challenge is selling organic clothing, as it's more expensive than regular options. However, we make sure the clothing is beautiful and unique, offering added value aside from just being organic.

4. Why is sustainability important to you and your business?

It should be important for every business nowadays! We all benefit from this. We also love our products and want them to last for generations. Sustainable toys prioritise child safety with non-toxic materials, creating a healthier environment for both children and adults.
 

5. What has been the most rewarding part of running Swanky Boutique?

Curating toys and children’s furniture that look good in our homes. This was actually another big reason for starting all this. Let’s face it, children’s toys are always in the way. A lot of them are bright, multi-coloured pieces of plastic littered on the floor. They stick out like a sore thumb.
 

So, as well as being sustainable and great for kids, we wanted parents to feel good when placing our products in their homes. When a customer is thinking of buying a big piece of play furniture or doll’s house for their kids, the first thing I usually ask them is what colour their sofa is. It may seem strange but I feel it’s so important that our products seamlessly blend into their private spaces.
 

6. You recently opened a new outlet in Mosta, what are your plans for the future of Swanky Boutique?

We're always brainstorming new ideas and plans on a daily basis—there's never a dull moment! We've been thrilled with the feedback from our new Mosta store, and we're committed to continuously enhancing and refining it to its full potential.
