Mr Vindalu's Flavourful Affair with a Maltese Twist

Tucked away in Ta Xbiex, right by the marina, there’s a cosy little spot that’s been making big waves. Mr. Vindalu isn’t your typical restaurant. Walking in, I was instantly charmed by the place. The space is a perfect blend of cosy and elegant — kind of like that friend who can rock a tuxedo and a pair of slippers.

It's a love letter to all things flavourful and bold. Think you know Indian food? Think again! This place will take your expectations, toss them in a sizzling pan and serve it back to you with a side of surprise.

The staff here are basically food wizards. Not only are they well-versed on the menu, but they also make you feel like you’re hanging out at a friend’s house — if that friend just happened to have an amazing talent for spicy, aromatic dishes.

They know when to chat, when to let you savour your meal, and most importantly, they have an uncanny ability to bring out dishes at just the right moment.

We kicked things off with the classic poppadoms and three chutneys. I mean, you can’t go wrong there, right? It’s like seeing your favourite team score a penalty in the opening minute. Result! The onion bhajis were crispy bites of heaven — salty, savoury, and gone before we knew it.

But then came the gunpowder fried chicken, and let me tell you, the name does not lie. It’s got a kick, but it’s the kind of kick you want — the one that makes you lean in and ask for another round.

Then, things got interesting with the Maltese Rabbit Tikka Masala. I know, I know — rabbit in an Indian restaurant? But trust me on this! The richness of the masala meets the tender Maltese rabbit in a flavour dance-off that ends in a delicious draw – but the real winner is you!

And if you think salads are boring, you haven't met the Maltese Crispy Kale & Sausage Chaat. It's crunchy, spicy, and shockingly addictive. You’ll be side-eyeing your lettuce from now on.

But let’s talk about the star of the show: the vindaloo. We had to do it. Two versions — one mild and one so spicy it could make a grown man rethink his life choices. And rethink he did. Poor James Ryder took on the spicy vindaloo with a brave face, but it wasn’t long before he was slamming the table and his voice turned a bit hoarse.
