It’s a rare thing these days to meet someone who truly wears their heart on their sleeve, someone unafraid to lay it all bare, their chest open to the world.
Ozzy Lino is that rare soul. A gifted singer and songwriter, Ozzy never does things by halves, he’s all in, every time.
And that’s exactly what one can expect from his upcoming concert at the City Theatre in Valletta on Friday, 8 November. Melodrama (The Disappearance of the Jewls Verse Project) reflects Ozzy's transition from his former stage name and back to his roots, symbolising the evolution of his artistry and sound.
And now with tickets selling quickly, those who purchase two will also receive a complimentary 12” vinyl of the album when it’s released.
Accompanied by an incredible 20-piece orchestra featuring an 11-piece string section, along with a band made up of well known musicians Ozzy has performed with over the last 23 years, the show promises to be a feast for the senses as he captivates the crowd with his raw, soulful lyrics and powerful vocals.
His music dives deep into everyday human emotion and drama, ‘his melodramatic journey through life’, hence the title ‘Melodrama’. Ozzy will perform a collection of his original songs, including several that were first released under his former stage name the Jewls Verse Project (JVP).
These tracks have been reimagined, so much so that they’re almost unrecognizable now. The reworked versions breathe new life and a fresh perspective to the stories they tell, offering the audience a deeper connection to both the artist and his craft.
Although this will be his first headline concert, Ozzy’s musical journey has been years in the making. He began singing from a young age, performing at the Manoel Theatre and training at the Johann Strauss School of Music in Valletta. At nine, his life took a turn when his family moved to Australia, where he continued honing his craft, joining the prestigious Green Valley Young People's Choir and touring internationally.
After returning to Malta in 2001, Ozzy performed at numerous gigs, taking any chance to share his music and build his presence on stage. During this time, he adopted the stage name Jewls Verse Project. Years later, fate intervened when a chance encounter on a train catapulted him into the spotlight.
Captured in a viral video as the ‘random passenger’, Ozzy playfully asked guitarist Kiddo Kat and Heidi Jourbert on the cajon to play some music, before lending his own vocals to the impromptu performance. The video quickly racked up millions of views, shining a new light on Ozzy and leading to a performance at Rockestra. This moment inspired him to reclaim his original stage name, Ozzy Lino.
Now, with Melodrama (The Disappearance of the Jewls Verse Project), he’s coming full circle, merging his past and present to create something truly unique. Get your tickets now for this unforgettable night at Ozzy Lino's website and on Ticketline.
