The winners of the Zero Waste HoReCa Seed Fund Competition have been announced! However, let’s be real—the true winners are all of us.
Every step towards sustainability benefits not just businesses but everyone who calls Malta home.
With new eco-friendly initiatives being put into action, the future is looking greener, cleaner, and more sustainable for all.
The Zero Waste HoReCa Programme, led by AKTI Project and Research Centre and supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation, was designed to help businesses in the Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering (HoReCa) sector become more environmentally responsible.
Through the Seed Fund Competition, businesses were encouraged to submit sustainability-driven ideas focused on reducing waste, conserving water, and cutting carbon emissions.
With €500 grants awarded to 20 winning businesses, the competition has given participants the tools and funding needed to implement real change within their operations.
The independent jury selected 20 businesses for their outstanding commitment to green practices.
From boutique hotels and popular restaurants to fitness centers and even community spaces, the winners reflect Malta’s growing dedication to sustainable tourism and hospitality.
Among them are Sotto Pinseria Romana (Sliema), Prosciutteria (Gzira), Hyatt Regency (St. Julian’s), Eden Cinemas (St. Julian’s), Lulu Boutique Hotel (Zebbug), Caviar & Bull (St. Julian’s), and Duke Boutique Hotel (Victoria, Gozo).
Community-driven initiatives, such as those at St. Lawrence Community Centre (Birgu) and St. Lucija Community Centre (Gozo), have also been recognized for their efforts.
These businesses aren’t just making changes within their own walls—they’re setting an example for the entire industry.
Their efforts show that sustainability isn’t just about meeting regulations or keeping up with trends. It’s about creating a future where businesses thrive while protecting the environment.
The Zero Waste HoReCa Awards 2024 have made one thing clear: change is happening, and the hospitality sector is leading the way.
