A Day At A Beach Club

Beach Club, Malta

For many people, an ideal holiday simply consists of of fun, sun and sea. If those three things float your boat then Malta is definitely for you … and once you discover some of the excellent beach clubs on the island you might very well explode with joy.

The most boring job on Malta has to be a weather forecaster. The job description has two main key skills listed on it: Ability to look good and say “It’s going to be hot and sunny … again.” Yep the Maltese weather is about as variable as concrete paving slabs – but in a good way! Oh, the anticipation of waiting to discover if it’s going to be sunny and 32C or sunny and 33C in the height of summer is sometimes more than we can bear!

In all, there are 300 days a year of sun, which doesn’t leave many days for any other type of weather. The climate is mild in the winter too, so there’s no wonder Malta is considered the land of fun, sun and sea.

The Maltese coastline is blessed with miles of beautiful sandy and rocky beaches and the deep blue and light blue crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea are perfect for swimming, sunbathing and water sports.

To help you get the most out of a day at the beach, Malta has many beach clubs that provide everything you’ll ever need and more besides. For those who have never come across the concept before, a beach club is somewhere you can relax, enjoy a refreshing swim, laze under the glorious sun, have a nice snack or sip a cool drink.

All beach clubs are fully equipped with sunshades, umbrellas, sun beds, deck chairs, showers and all the necessary facilities.
They’ll also sell you beach accessories like lilos, flippers, goggles, snorkels, sun block, beach balls and any other item that might help make a lovely day at the beach even more exciting.

Those (like my other half) who are convinced that a small fish, giant shark or monster octopus will gang up and grab them if they venture into the crystal clear waters of the Med’ will also be happy at a beach club. That’s because most of them have fresh water swimming pools as well as providing access to the sea for the more intrepid.

Beach clubs will also give you the opportunity to ride the waves and show off your best tricks on exciting wind-surfers, water skis, wake boards, towable tubes, water-sledges and speed boats. You can even choose to ride on the wind by parasailing! This is similar to paragliding – you’re essentially strapped to a big parachute and tied to the back of a speedboat. Imagine what a thrilling experience it would be to fly high and fast while being pulled by a speedboat that is streaking through the waves?

Some Beach Clubs provide scuba-diving lessons for both beginners and experienced divers, but always try to dive before lunch, to work up your appetite!

If you are not the thrill-loving, adrenaline junkie type, then there are some more pedestrian pursuits like riding a paddleboat or canoe, sailing a dinghy or snorkelling. Some clubs offer beach games and tournaments, with pleasant music accompanying these exciting events.
So if you really want to make the best of your sun-kissed holiday on Malta, grab your towel and head to a beach club.
